Studio Good Architects was founded by Forrest Good, evolving from the legacy of his father, Nathan Good’s, established practice. The firm represents a thoughtful transition and evolution while maintaining the core strengths that made the original practice successful—exceptional design skill, the ability to instill trust in clients, and turning clients’ ideas into reality.

What began as a respected architectural practice has evolved into a dedicated team focused on creating spaces that embody Pacific Northwest ideals of design.

Today, Studio Good encompasses a collaborative studio where team members work together to create thoughtful, sustainable designs that honestly express the unique character of each site and client’s needs.

Approach

We believe that exceptional architecture should enhance life’s experiences while respecting the unique character of each site. Our approach is rooted in collaboration—we engage clients as active participants in the design process, guided by our motto: “People support what they help create.” Homes designed with you, not just for you.

While our designs are carefully crafted and built to exacting standards—thoughtfully designed, meticulously detailed, genuinely livable—our approach to client relationships remains warm and inclusive. We listen deeply and respond thoughtfully, creating refined spaces without pretension. This balance between the art of balancing beauty with functionality defines who we are and the work we create.

Architecture that feels as good as it looks.

Pioneering sustainable design through LEED Platinum certifications, Passive House expertise, & innovative systems, from solar arrays to triple-pane windows, creating energy-efficient spaces built to endure.

History

Nathan Good Architects was founded in 2005 by Nathan Good, AIA, FAIA, a visionary architect recognized as one of the first LEED Accredited Professionals in the United States and named Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2015. Under Nathan’s leadership, the firm pioneered sustainable design in the Pacific Northwest, earning national recognition for iconic projects including the award-winning net-zero-energy residence in Cannon Beach, innovative wineries, and groundbreaking green buildings.

The practice earned numerous prestigious awards, including multiple Green Home of the Year honors, the 2019 Stephen R. Kellert Biophilic Design Award, and features in publications from Sunset Magazine to Green Builder. Nathan’s approach—merging environmental performance with exceptional craft—established the foundation for what the firm represents today and deeply influenced Forrest’s own design philosophy. Working alongside his father, Forrest learned that true luxury emerges from thoughtful decisions and meticulous execution, that honest materials tell authentic stories, and that the best architecture frames life rather than dominating it.

Now, under Forrest Good’s leadership as the practice evolves into Studio Good Architects, we carry forward this legacy of design excellence. Good design. Good living. Our commitment remains unchanged: creating spaces that respond to both site and client needs, designing homes with you rather than just for you, and crafting architecture that feels as good as it looks.

Meet the People

Our Team

Forrest Good, AIA

Owner & Architect

With over fourteen years at the firm, Forrest has guided its evolution from working alongside his father, founder Nathan Good, to now leading the practice as Studio Good Architects. His path to architecture was shaped by both engineering and design. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon, bringing a blend of structural clarity and creative vision to every project.

Forrest leads design across all phases, from early concept development through detailed coordination with consultants and contractors. His focus is on creating thoughtful, site-responsive architecture rooted in timeless principles: buildings that connect meaningfully to their surroundings and serve the people who inhabit them.

Central to his practice is a philosophy passed down from his father: people support what they help create. Forrest carries this forward by engaging clients deeply in the design process, listening closely, and building clarity and confidence at every step. His goal is architecture that feels personal, intentional, and genuinely connected to the lives it shapes.

A licensed architect in Oregon, Washington and member of the American Institute of Architects, Forrest also leads the firm’s efforts in design, architecture that prioritizes human health and wellbeing and best-practice project delivery. He is committed to mentoring the team and ensuring every client feels supported throughout their journey.

Outside the studio, Forrest trains for endurance events and most recently completed an Ironman 70.3. He’s often found on long runs or exploring Oregon’s lakes and coastline with his family, continuing a lifelong study of craft, construction, and the creative process.

Meghan Laro

Business Operations Manager

Meghan has been part of the firm’s story nearly from the beginning. She started working with founder Nathan Good in 2006, when the practice was still operating out of his basement, making her his very first employee. Nearly two decades later, she continues to shape the firm’s foundation as Business Operations Manager, overseeing financial management, accounting, HR, strategy, and day-to-day operations.

Her background is as multifaceted as her role. She holds an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, a Master of Public Health from West Virginia University, and both an MBA and Master of Public Administration from Willamette University. Meghan also runs her own consulting firm, providing outsourced CFO services to small businesses throughout the Willamette Valley.

Though her work happens more behind the scenes, Meghan is deeply committed to ensuring every client has a wonderful experience, knowing they are the lifeblood of everything the firm does.

Outside the office, Meghan loves world travel, exploring the outdoors with her husband and children, and life with her miniature Australian Shepherd.

Adrienne Gerig-Heyerly, AIA

Associate Architect

Adrienne brings a distinctive path to her work at Studio Good. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Goshen College, including study abroad in China, she worked as a soil technician before pursuing architecture. She received her Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon in 2015, with a focus on envelope details and time studying in Vicenza, Italy. She became a licensed architect and AIA member in 2018.

Before joining the firm two and a half years ago, Adrienne focused on commercial architecture but found herself drawn to residential design and the deeply personal nature of crafting someone’s home. Having collaborated with Forrest in graduate school, she knew the culture would be a good fit, and the opportunity to learn from a firm with such breadth in residential work was exactly what she was looking for.

Her design philosophy centers on the belief that thoughtful function is the foundation of great architecture. When the plan works, the light is right, and circulation feels intuitive, the result is quietly elegant.

Outside work, Adrienne enjoys beach trips and hikes with her husband and two dogs, mountain biking, running, and traveling to visit loved ones.

Nick Katagiri

Designer 2

Nick focuses on the precision that brings designs to life: construction drawings, detailing, and coordination through the building process. He brings a methodical, detail-oriented approach to every project.

He joined Studio Good four and a half years ago after spending four years at an architecture firm in Bozeman, Montana that specialized in high-end luxury custom homes . A Portland native, Nick had planned to return to his hometown, but when his partner accepted their (her?) dream job with the State in Salem, Nick happily followed and found a home at the firm.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Art History from the University of Oregon. His design sensibility is grounded in efficiency and honesty: he values accurate previsualization, clarity of function, and an economy of materials, time, and cost. For Nick, truth in architecture emerges through that discipline.

When he’s not at the studio, Nick can be found fly fishing, competing in virtual cycling races, birding, or spending time with family.

Liliya Zagorski

Junior Designer

Liliya joined Studio Good in June 2025, shortly after graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture. As a junior designer, she supports projects across the studio by developing models and drawings, conducting research, and contributing to the collaborative design process.

What drew her to the firm was its mid-century-inspired sensibility and clear commitment to quality design. Liliya has developed a thoughtful approach to her craft: she begins by learning as much as possible about a project, identifying its core themes, then connects those pieces like assembling a puzzle to see the bigger picture.

Outside the studio, Liliya enjoys the quieter pleasures of tending to her growing collection of plants, sewing, and unwinding with video games like Minecraft.
