Hazelnut Farmhouse

Willamette Valley, Oregon | Agrarian Life Reimagined

Rooted in legacy and landscape, Hazelnut Farmhouse was designed for a client whose family has cultivated this land since the early 1900s. Generations of agricultural heritage are woven into the architecture itself, with displays that honor the family’s role in shaping the region’s farming history.

The design takes its cues from the agrarian forms of Oregon’s working barns, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Concrete floors, exposed wood structure, and broad indoor-outdoor connections reflect the site’s authenticity and invite a sense of familiarity. Farm implements and the opening to a hayloft-like space create a tactile dialogue between past and present.

The middle floor houses guest accommodations, a home office, and a family archive. Above, the primary living quarters open to sweeping views of the surrounding farmland and distant horizons. From the top level, the home overlooks endless hazelnut orchards — a place to see the land from above, to observe its cycles, and to feel deeply connected to it.o Here
