Cannon Beach, Oregon | Earth Advantage Platinum

Perched along the Oregon Coast, Cannon Beach is the home that shaped the foundation of Studio Good’s design philosophy. Created more than two decades ago, the project marked a turning point—proving that high-performance, net-zero design could coexist beautifully with natural materials, coastal conditions, and multigenerational living.
The home is oriented to capture sweeping ocean views and abundant southern light, allowing the architecture to work with the environment rather than against it. Natural materials, expressive forms, and a strong connection between indoors and out define the character of the home. Designed to generate as much energy as it consumes, the residence set an early standard for sustainable coastal living long before such practices were widespread.
Built to last for generations, the home supports family life, coastal weather cycles, and the evolving needs of its occupants while maintaining a timeless presence on the shoreline.

Acclaim
Cannon Beach earned Earth Advantage Platinum with the highest point total awarded at the time, becoming an early exemplar of sustainable residential design. It received the Custom Green Home of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders, the Western Home Award from Sunset, and recognition as Home of the Year by Spaces. It has been published in Time, Fine Homebuilding, Solar Today, Sunset, Environmental Design + Construction, and several books on sustainable architecture.
Beyond its awards, Cannon Beach remains most meaningful as the project that defined Studio Good’s enduring principles: architecture rooted in place, shaped by craft, and committed to giving back more than it takes.
