Newskowin Residence

Oregon Coast | LEED Gold-Certified

Just a block from the Pacific, Neskowin was designed as a coastal retreat that feels equally welcoming for quiet mornings alone or gatherings with family and friends. Our clients asked us to weave their family’s story into the architecture through the reuse of Douglas-fir lumber salvaged from a 1938 warehouse that had been in their family for generations.

This reclaimed material became the heart of the project, reimagined as columns, beams, flooring, cabinetry, wall paneling, and furniture. The result is a home that carries a tangible sense of continuity — where every surface tells a story. Designed to LEED Gold standards, Neskowin pairs timeless character with modern performance. A well-insulated envelope, radiant-heat floors, and an ultra-efficient heat recovery ventilator ensure year-round comfort and efficiency, while the home’s lodge-like simplicity creates a calm, grounded atmosphere that honors its coastal setting.

Neskowin has been recognized for its sensitive design approach and commitment to sustainability. The project was featured in Fine Homebuilding (August/September 2011) and 1859 Magazine (Spring 2011) for its thoughtful use of reclaimed materials and enduring craftsmanship. These publications highlighted the home as an early model for blending modern performance with regional heritage — a defining expression of Studio Good’s belief that architecture can feel both refined and deeply personal.
