Lighthouse

Neahkahnie, Oregon Coast

Perched on a hillside overlooking the vast Oregon coastline, Lighthouse was designed for a family whose history is intertwined with American craftsmanship. The clients, descendants of one of the contractors who built Yosemite’s iconic Ahwahnee Hotel, asked us to honor their heritage through a design that nods to the timeless character of National Park Service “rustic architecture.”

Anchored into the slope above Oswald West State Park, the home opens north toward sweeping views of the Pacific and Cannon Beach beyond. Inside, an open plan unites the kitchen, dining, and living spaces around the view, while bedrooms look into the surrounding forest for balance and retreat.

A restrained palette of natural materials reinforces the sense of place: FSC-certified oak flooring and cabinetry, OKO Skin cement siding, and a durable metal roof combine to create a home that is at once resilient and enduring. Every detail is designed to withstand the elements and celebrate the tactile richness of honest materials.

Impact

Lighthouse has been praised for its thoughtful dialogue between past and present — a modern structure grounded in tradition, built to last for generations. Its handcrafted details, sustainable materials, and enduring beauty embody Studio Good’s philosophy of creating architecture that connects legacy, landscape, and lasting value.
